Four Tips on How to Prepare for House Guests - Whole Home Scenting

How To Prepare For House Guests

Summer is in full force, and for many of us, this is when family and friends visit. The idea of hosting people for a meal, let alone overnight, can be very overwhelming and stressful.

We’ve created a list of the most important things to do to make this time as easy as possible for everyone involved so that you can actually enjoy your guests when they visit.

1. Get in the Right Mind Frame

Get in the right mind frame when prepparing for house guests.

Having people over is not about your house or the food. It’s about you and your guests. It’s being together and enjoying each other’s company. Don’t stress too much about the little details. Keep in mind the relationships you’re trying to foster and strengthen first. Nothing puts guests on edge more than an anxious host.

2. Clean the Bathrooms

Bathrooms are somewhere everyone will spend some time in and are the most off-putting if they are not clean. If you’ve adopted our daily cleaning schedule, this will be easy. Clean the toilet, the sink, shower or tub, and the floor. Fresh linens and extra toilet paper in easy reach will finish it off.

3. Don’t Forget About the Kitchen

A clean sink and counter start the visit off right. A clean fridge stocked with everything you need for the meals and quick snacks is probably the most important. Extra garbage bags on hand, and any paper products should be ready to go. We try to start the summer with additional paper products just in case. We don’t use them regularly, just if we have a large group that we don’t have enough dishes and cutlery for.

4. Sleeping Quarters

Cleaning the sleeping quarters will help you prepare for house guests.

The last place that is most important to prepare is where your guests will sleep. If they are overnight guests, make sure their sleeping quarters have clean linens and are ready for them to rest at any moment. If your guests are only over for the evening, make sure your common space has plenty of seating, whether it is in the backyard or in a family room (just a few folding chairs to accommodate extra people is enough!).

Bonus: Fragrance Your Home

One of the best ways to making an experience memorable is scent. Fragrancing your home can ensure your guests remember their stay for years to come. There are many ways to make your home smell great, from candles to wax-warmers, to plug-ins, to standalone diffusers—or you can fragrance your entire home using a Whole Home Scenting® Diffuser. One system to blanket your entire home in a scent of your choice.

Remember What’s Important

Rather than being stressed and running around worrying about details, we would like our guests to see us smiling and enjoying their company.

Take care of the few spots that people will spend the most time, and let the rest be taken care of if you have time and energy. No one should feel stressed or overwhelmed when guests come over. Follow this guide to ensure you’re relaxed and can be present when guests visit.

Relationships are an essential part of getting together during the summer, so be sure to enjoy it!
